Grand Hôtel x OMAKA
Grand Hôtel celebrates 150 years of innovation and craftsmanship in collaboration with the Stockholm brewery OMAKA.
With influences and flavors from all over Europe, the collaboration between Grand Hôtel Stockholm and the OMAKA brewery is a journey through the hotel's long history of tradition, innovation, and craftsmanship. The result is the beer 1874, which will be exclusively sold at Grand Hôtel as a tribute to the hotel's past 150 years.
The collaboration between the Stockholm-based OMAKA brewery and Grand Hôtel Stockholm traces the hotel's history since its inception in 1874, where rich traditions and innovative craftsmanship meet. Illustrated by the artist Jan Vana, who has interpreted anecdotes from the hotel's history, 1874 is the first in a series of anniversary launches celebrating the hotel's 150th anniversary in 2024.
The beer follows the traditional German style kellerbier, cellar beer in Swedish, gathering influences from places around the world. Malt from the German premium maltery Weyermann in Bamberg has been malted using old methods for a rounder taste, and the French salt Fleur de Sel, extracted only with southeast winds, together with German noble hops, provides a subtle hop aroma. In combination with yeast from Denmark, the result is a beer of pure and crisp character with low bitterness.
The final ingredient, the addition of fennel seeds, unites Grand Hôtel's Swedish and French heritage. Hedda Spendrup, brewmaster at OMAKA, explains: "The goal of the collaboration was to combine Grand Hôtel's elegance with OMAKA's innovative methods to create a delicate balance between tradition and innovation. From there, the idea of adding fennel seeds was born, giving an unexpected but balanced aniseed flavor, reminiscent of both French gastronomy and traditional Swedish spirits."
1874 is brewed at the OMAKA brewery, only two kilometers from Grand Hôtel Stockholm, and is exclusively served at all the hotel's restaurants.
"At Grand Hôtel, we attach great importance to ensuring that every beverage experience resonates with our long legacy of quality and craftsmanship. Therefore, we are incredibly proud of our collaboration with OMAKA, which has interpreted our heritage uniquely and innovatively. Together with Jan Vana's illustrations, 1874 comes to life as a tribute to our 150 years of beverage culture throughout the hotel but also to the 150 years we have ahead of us," concludes Karl Persson, Food & Beverage Manager, Grand Hôtel Stockholm.
